Abstract: In recent years, all schools and universities have begun to value the diversity of their students, and intercultural communication skills have become essential for both students and faculty. For many years, intercultural communication skills (ICC) have been considered important in business and international relations, but they are also necessary for teachers in the field of education to deal with diverse learners. In this lecture, we will examine some of the basic theories on how intercultural communication skills are formed. "The Role of Language in Education"
Abstract: What is the role of teaching languages and language education? Previous studies have shown that language has two roles in a diverse society. The first role is that governments have often formed national unification policies by setting official languages as the language of public education. The second role is that all people try to preserve their mother tongue as a symbol of their cultural identity and cultural background. In addition to these factors, languages have been chosen according to people's political, economic, and social needs. People seek better opportunities to learn, work, and live. Particularly in the modern age of immigration, the changing role of language should be considered as a new function in multicultural education in order to meet the educational needs of people. In this presentation, I will focus on the education of Chinese people living in Malaysia and Japan, and clarify the comparative relationship between the three roles of language.
